About the artist

I was born in Potsdam, New York, on October 21, 1946. Most of my life has been spent in the Chicago area. I graduated from St. Norbert College in West DePere, Wisconsin, in1968 with a Bachelor of Arts as an art major. After graduation I came back to Chicago and taught art in junior high for two years. I also started a family: Cindy and I have two children and four grandchildren.

When I got tired of starvation wages and bratty twelve year olds I went to work as a real estate salesmen in the family business. After five years of selling houses I became intrigued by investment real estate sales. From that point forward I was hooked on the investment business and spent the next thirty-three years selling investments of one type or another.

In the late 70ís I began organizing partnerships to buy apartment buildings, office buildings, drill oil wells and I even syndicated an upscale meat and produce market (mine did not turn out as well as Whole Foods). In 1981 my partner in real estate and I started an NASD Broker Dealer called Terra Securities Corp. This business became my main focus for the next twenty-seven years until I retired in 2006. In 1998 I sold the business to a division of General Electric and stayed on as President until my retirement. I will always be proud of my work at Terra. In the year that I left we had sales of around $2,000,000,000.

Throughout my years in business I continued to paint and draw, usually late at night, as a relief valve from the pressures at work. My first one man art show was in 1968 at St. Norbert College. The show was a requirement to graduate as an art major along with a term paper on art history. My show was ordered off the walls of the fine arts building by the president of the college because it included a fome rubber nude relief (St. Norbert was having a hard time leaving the 19th century at the time). I am forever thankful to Dan Dickhut, head of the art department, for putting the show up in his house in protest. My next one man show was also at St. Norbert College in the mid 90's. My first show as a professional was in 2007 in conjunction with the opening of a new office of an old friend. The show was a great success with several hundred viewers and a number of sales.

Over the years I have focused primarily on oils. I like to do portraits, landscapes and flowers. My work is usually realistic but I also enjoy the abstract. Now that I have the time I expect to develop more of a unique style, so stay tuned, as they say.
